We've all been there, it's a Saturday afternoon and your favourite team are on TV. You've parked yourself on the couch and convinced yourself not to move for anything. Nuclear war imminent? Who cares, it's about to kick off! No female within 100 yards? Check! Crate of cold beers? Check! Half time snack? ......Doh! But now there is no need to worry because home delivery pies from 'Simple Simon' have come to your rescue! These pies can be ordered online , over the phone, by fax and probably even by smoke signal (although don't quote us on that one). These delicious, nutritious (probably) and generously sized pies are then delivered to your door just in time for you to mute whichever mindless pundit is trying to explain the new version of the offside rule. Lovely Jubbly, so what's the catch? Well at the moment they're only available in Harvey Nichols so you'll probably have to re-mortgage the house to afford one.
Buffet Denies Interest in Countrywide
Shares in Countrywide Financial Corp. fell to a 4-year low Friday after billionaire investor Warren Buffett said he never came close to buying shares in the Calabasas-based lender. Reports surfaced in August that the chairman of Omaha-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc. might buy a stake in the struggling lender. The reports said that Buffett had been increasing his stake in financial services companies with significant exposure to the mortgage market at the time. He was quoted on CNBC saying the worsening credit and housing markets may present some real investment opportunities. Buffett said in an interview late Thursday on Fox Business Network that he never bought any Countrywide stock, and that the company lacked a comprehensive recovery plan that might have attracted him. This news comes after Securities and Exchange Commission said it opened an informal inquiry into stock sales by Countrywide Chief Executive Angelo Mozilo after North Carolinas State Treasurer raised concerns about the timing and frequency of Mozilos trades.
Robert Peston: 'I'm not going to become smooth and phoney'
His blog, Peston's Picks, of which he is immensely proud, has a million readers, many of them well?informed, a few critical of his style, but most grateful for his advice. He says he includes anything that's not libellous or obscene. So, we have Gina from Mexico, who writes: "Mr Peston, you look so handsome on this page!!! I congratulate BBC News to make this business edition so attractive." And the inevitable: "You're not the son of Maurice Peston, are you?" Or: "Yours is the only blog I bother to read regularly. A pity you are an Arsenal supporter. At least it shows you have human failings." Peston's rebirth as a broadcaster has been a tough call, even for someone who claims that he gets bored when he's mastered something and so needs new challenges. It must have been a rude shock to discover that performance - his Achilles' heel - counted almost as much as what he had to say.
